Staged Reading - Myth, hero and legend all wrapped up into one genuine person, Davy Crockett is iconic in his accomplishments as frontiersman, politician, Indian fighter and soldier, making him one of the most colorful characters in American history. The Confessions of Davy Crockett is set in a Tennessee tavern where Davy’s friends have gathered to hear his stories and homespun wisdom one last time, the night before he will set off for Texas and to his final destiny. Dressed in his trademark buckskin and carrying a bottle of whiskey, Davy reveals his sorrows, his pains, his triumphs, his delights, and his struggle with the bottle following his devastating defeat in his bid for re-election as Tennessee’s representative to the U.S. House. Through his curious adventures with bears, Indians, war, scandalous politicians, and the tragic loss of his beloved wife, we learn of Davy’s change of heart regarding the “savage” Indians and of his love for the mysterious beauty of the untamed West. We find the super-heroism in his humanity.
